Family
Jan and her family have been residents of El Paso County for over 12 years. They maintained their residency while living in Belgium during an overseas job assignment from 2002-04, utilizing every school break to travel throughout Europe. She and Mark have been married for 25 years and have two children: Their son, Ian, graduated from Rampart High School in 2008; their daughter, Kirstyn, attends Rampart High School.Education and Business Experience
Jan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management in 1987 from Sonoma State University. She received her Associate of Arts degree in Business Management from Santa Rosa Junior College in 1982. Recreation
The daughter of a WWII Decorated Navy aircraft carrier pilot, commercial pilot, and test pilot, Jan received her Private Pilot's license in 1981. She passed the FAA Commercial Pilot Examination in 1980. She completed training and a solo parachute jump in 1981. She enjoyed flying for ten years and looks forward to renewing the avocation in the future. Jan completed motorcycle safety training and received her motorcycle license certificate in 2007. She attended the inaugural, police escorted Wounded Warriors Veterans Recognition ride in May, 2008 and rides regularly to enjoy the vast beauty throughout Colorado. When not volunteering, campaigning, or parenting, Jan enjoys playing USTA league tennis, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, yoga, swimming, skiing, and travel.Memberships and Affiliations
Protecting wildlife and the environment has been a priority for Jan since she was thirteen, when she joined Greenpeace in its charter year. She remains a member today and maintains memberships in several organizations, including: Sierra Club, World Wildlife Fund, National Resource Defense Counsel, National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, and the Ocean Conservancy. Jan is a member of the Artemis Group, the American Association of University Women, the US Tennis Association, Lynmar Racquet Club, and the Zebulon Cruisers. Humanitarian memberships include: Amnesty International, American Civil Liberties Union, Habitat for Humanity, Rocky Mountain PBS, Planned Parenthood, and Doctors Without Borders.
